Thrilling thrilling thrilling..,
Actually across the street, with a lady named Diane.
And I've been absorbed by a new app... I'm trying to shake it but I am a sucker for eye candy! It's a stunned silence... By a miracle we've acquired a Shimano Dura Ace wheel set and component group set from eBay. I'm tweaking the winter's Golden Eagles to pass the time until they arrive. They will be used to build the silver Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra road bike we have!
Now armed with a new derailleur hanger that should make the XTR derailleur adjust correctly, we brought the Schwinn S-40 home from storage to be finished up as a Golden Eagle. An amazing day weather-wise too!
I purchased a Sterling 'City Speed 10' Mountain Bike for $30 Saturday night. It will go on eBay as parts because the old frame, though it says 'chromoloy', is very heavy. But it has nice Suntour components, a nice Sugino VT crankset, and Dia-Compe brake calipers that are in demand for BMX restorations. Perhaps it will help in restoring other bikes here. I hate taking bikes apart just for parts...
The next project has now been disassembled and is ready for cleaning. It is a vintage Balance Mountain Bike that our friend Leslie found for us in her garage.
It's a very cool bike for its time so I'll be restoring it to the best of my ability. The only problem is... Well, try searching Google for "Balance bike" and you'll see the problem! So how to get word to people who remember grown up Balance bikes... It will be another adventure! Still on her back, no amount coaxing or twisting or hammering has yet loosened the stem from the steerer tube. More penetrating oil baths for the next few day and we'll try again. I need a new can, though...
...to take the Univega outside. And get a picture. No adjustments made, though, we had a spacey day!
Haven is too small inside to adjust derailleurs & brakes - or even put a saddle on if it's high - so next step with the Univega Rover Sport is take her outside for that part. And only a 70% chance of rain tomorrow! Er, today, I mean.
I have to figure out how to adjust 7 speed shifters for a 6 speed derailleur and cassette. I took off the old thumb shifters in favor of trigger shifters. We'll see...
